The Big Lebowski
May's edition of our Coen Brothers of the Month programme brings the duo's beloved cult comedy noir The Big Lebowski back to the big screen at GFT, including a special Late Night screening as part of our Birthday Programme. Jeffrey 'The Dude' Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), a Los Angeles slacker who only wants to bowl and drink White Russians, is mistaken for another Jeffrey Lebowski, a wheelchair-bound millionaire, and finds himself dragged into a strange series of events involving nihilists, adult film producers, ferrets, errant toes, and large sums of money. Initially releasing to a lukewarm box office, The Big Lebowksi has gone on to develop a following that takes in annual festivals, meet-ups, publications and a cultural resonance that seems destined to endure for many decades to come.
