Elena Lopez Riera’s striking debut feature captures the languid spell of lazy sunny days but adds elements of magic realism worthy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Teenager Ana (Luna Pamiés) lives in a quiet village in eastern Spain with her mother and grandmother. A long, hot summer is enlivened by the possibility of romance with the handsome Jose (Alberto Olmo), however, this is a village prone to flooding and many believe that the jealous waters can carry a woman off. There is talk of witchcraft. What is the price of true romance in a land that seems determined to oppose it?
