Details

Our celebration of Wilder ends with one of his lesser-known, lesser-seen later films. This unique take on the world’s most famous detective offers a fascinating addition to Wilder’s collection of flawed leading men. Robert Stephens’ campy performance feels more subversive than recent screen incarnations, while the story focuses more on Holmes’ weaknesses than his deductive brilliance. It also notably features the incomparable Christopher Lee as Holmes’ disapproving brother Mycroft, and a hilarious third act jaunt to the Scottish Highlands. Screening on 35mm
