Can we break our addiction to North Sea oil and gas? Emma Davie’s film looks at an invisible machine at the core of our economy and society. It now faces an uncertain future as activists and investors demand change. The Oil Machine brings together a wide range of voices from oil company executives, economists, young activists, pension fund managers and considers how this machine can be tamed, dismantled, or repurposed.
As part of the film’s impact campaign called After THE OIL MACHINE, we'll discuss the urgent need for decisive action within the next five years, and with a special focus on the role of workers in the oil and gas industry, both historically and today.
The speakers will include:
Emma Davie, director of The Oil Machine
Ewan Gibbs, a historian who has studied the role of energy workers
Neil Rothnie, an oil worker who became an activist
