20th Anniversary Screening
20 years ago, director Ken Loach and screenwriter Paul Laverty made one of their most urgent, haunting dramas. In the process, they discovered a brilliant screen actor in Scottish teenager Martin Compston. The film went on to win prizes at Cannes, the British Independent Film Awards and European Film Awards.
Sweet Sixteen tells the story of Liam (Compston) and his dreams of a better life. He has a plan for the future, when his mother is released from prison and they can make a fresh start together. However, everything conspires against his sweet dreams in a film of raw emotion and biting humour. We intend to celebrate the film’s anniversary in the company of cast and crew.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Martin Compston, Rebecca O'Brien, Annmarie Strain and Paul Laverty.
