Details

The only female actor to have won all six of the currently available Best Actress awards in UK theatre for a single performance, Billie Piper has now turned her hand to filmmaking with her directorial debut Rare Beasts.

Pitched as an ‘anti-romcom’, Rare Beasts tells the failed love story of Mandy and Pete. Piper is excellent as Mandy, a modern woman whose life is in chaos. A career-driven, single mother to a son with behavioural problems, she is caught in the fray of her parents’ separation and looking for love in her own life. She falls upon a troubled man, the charming, religious, traditionalist Pete (Leo Bill) who is searching for a sense of worth and ‘restored’ male identity.

Unhinged and darkly funny, Rare Beasts confronts the tricky tightrope between love, family, career and the pressure to ‘have it all’.

A red-raw slab of heart-on-sleeve energy. ★★★★

Little White Lies

A reeling account of modern love and womanhood.
