Details

We Are Parable have teamed up with eOne to present a special preview screening of the highly anticipated The Woman King, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim and John Boyega.

To celebrate the release of the film, we’re pleased to announce that there will be also be a live performance from acclaimed Scottish-Caribbean poet, Courtney Stoddart. Courtney will be performing a piece inspired by the film and the original warrior women, the Agojie.

The Woman King is the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. Inspired by true events, the film follows the emotionally epic journey of General Nanisca (Oscar-winner Viola Davis) as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life. Some things are worth fighting for…

Screening as part of We Are Parable's BFI funded, nationwide Who We Are season, designed to celebrate Black Cinema from around the world.
