Night of the Kings special event

As part of their nationwide season 'Who We Are', film exhibition company We Are Parable have teamed up with Glasgow Film to present a special screening of Night of the Kings.

On Sunday 25 July, following the 7.20pm screening only, there will be a live performance from Mara the Storyteller, inspired by the beauty and importance of storytelling in Black culture. Further info below.

Spectacular, thrilling and absolutely unique, Night of the Kings is both an exhilarating tale of survival in one of the world’s most unforgiving environments, and a beautiful ode to the power of storytelling.

When a young man is sent to an infamous prison, located in the middle of the Ivorian forest and ruled by its inmates, he is chosen to take part in a storytelling ritual just as a violent battle for control bubbles to the surface. After discovering the grim fate that awaits him at the end of the night, Roman begins to narrate the mystical life of a legendary outlaw to make his story last until dawn and give himself any chance of survival.

Special event: Sunday 25 July

Following the 7.20pm screening on Sunday 25 July, we are delighted to be hosting an event with We Are Parable, as part of their nationwide 'Who We Are' season. The live performance from Mara the Storyteller, is inspired by the beauty and importance of storytelling in Black culture.

Mara the Storyteller is a narrative artist, drawing on her rich, dual Kenyan/Scottish cultural heritage, to create worlds that explore contemporary issues through legend, myth and fantasy. With her own vision of the beauty, history and aspirations of people of African heritage, she fuses ancient and modern in an intoxicating experience where the audience takes centre stage leading to invitations to perform across the world and to create bespoke stories for those who dare to step into the world of fantasy.

We Are Parable is an award-winning film exhibition company. Who We Are is supported by the British Film Institute and The National Lottery.

An assured, energetic piece of epic filmmaking, one that celebrates how storytelling, oration, and folklore teach us about our past so we might change our present. - ★★★★
