Elwood P Dowd (James Stewart) is a wealthy eccentric whose best friend is an invisible six-foot rabbit called Harvey. Elwood lives with his sister Veta (Josephine Hull) and her daughter (Victoria Horne), who both worry Elwood has gone insane. The director of the local mental institution, Dr Chumley (Cecil Kellaway), tries to reconcile his duty to help Elwood with his own growing experiences with Harvey. Based on Mary Chase’s 1944 play of the same name, Harvey is an oddball comedy-drama with a pitch-perfect performance by Stewart.
