Peter Riegert, Peter Capaldi and Jenny Seagrove star in this comedy-drama from celebrated writer-director Bill Forsyth (Gregory's Girl, Comfort and Joy), screening at GFT to mark four decades since its release.
Forsyth put Scottish cinema on the map with this enchanting cult hit, which follows Texas oil executive and ace dealmaker Mac (Peter Reigert) who is sent to buy out a coastal village in the Highlands and replace it with a refinery. Caught between his demanding boss back in Houston (Burt Lancaster) and the community, Mac soon becomes captivated by remote Scottish life and its inhabitants.
Funny, spirit-lifting and dripping with charm, Local Hero is a poignant ode to the power of community that loses none of its magic on the big screen 40 years on.
