Image for Italian Film Festival

Scotland’s annual showcase of the best in Italian cinema returns for 2018 with an exciting, wide-ranging selection from the past twelve months. Italian Film Festival includes new work from several generations of filmmakers, including established auteurs such as Paolo and Vittorio Taviani and Abel Ferrara as well as young talents such as Roberto De Paolis and Jonas Carpignano. Moving from Sicily to rural Tuscany, from inner-city Rome to Calabria, the programme explores the landscape of il bel paese in all its diversity. We will also pay tribute to Totò and Anna Magnani, two of the giants of Italian cinema with a very special screening of Mario Monicelli’s 1960 comedy Risate di Gioia, recently restored by Cineteca di Bologna.

The Italian Film Festival is programmed by Dr Pasquale Iannone, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute and Filmhouse.
