Details

After breaking up with her boyfriend, Lilian (Grace Van Patten) moves in with married couple Julia (Emily Mortimer) and Don (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose relationship is crumbling. When Don moves out, selfish and irresponsible Lilian earns her keep by cooking for Julia, a reclusive writer who rarely emerges from her room.

Communicating largely through notes, the odd couple gradually forge a bond and help one another to negotiate the foibles, phobias and obstacles that have long hindered their happiness.

In her feature debut, Dolly Wells crafts a contemporary, sharp-witted comedy with cameos from Jonathan Ames, Martin Amis and Zadie Smith adding a special layer of authenticity to this tale of two women whose eccentricities unexpectedly draw out change and growth in the other.

‘An understated indie that suggests that Wells could easily be the next Gerwig or Baumbach.'

Anna Smith, Sight & Sound

‘A love letter to New York and a spry salute to sisterhood.’
