CineMasters: Nicolas Roeg

English director Nic Roeg first made his name in the film industry as a cinematographer, notably on Fahrenheit 451 and Far from the Madding Crowd in the 1960s. But it is the films he directed in the 1970s that ensure his place in cinema history. Roeg pioneered a non-linear form of visual storytelling that tapped into the human unconscious in a way that remains thrilling and uncanny. His influence is clearly found in the work of current pioneers like Jonathan Glazer, Lynne Ramsay and Claire Denis.
