Gregor Piatigorsky was one of the greatest musicians the world has ever heard. Murray Grigor’s captivating new documentary pays tribute to a virtuoso performer, generous teacher and larger than life personality whose story unfolds like a thrilling adventure yarn. Born in the Ukraine, Piatigorsky started playing the cello when he was seven and by 15 he was principal cellist with the Bolshoi Opera Orchestra. His flight to Poland in 1921 and subsequent arrival in New York were the start of a life recalled in wonderful archive footage, interviews and spine tingling recordings.
