Image for 80 Years of Cinema

This weekend we celebrate 80 years of cinema on Rose Street. The Cosmo, the grand single-screen cinema that became Glasgow Film Theatre in 1974, first opened its doors in May 1939. To mark the occasion, we have chosen four films from across the decades, each of which celebrates the magic, wonder and unique fascination of the cinema experience. These screenings are all offered completely free – we’ll see you in the cinema!

Reserve your tickets below or at GFT Box Office in advance. Tickets will only be available to collect on the day of the screening. Please note tickets are limited to two per person, per screening, excluding The Wizard of Oz (four per person).

Also from Thursday to Sunday, archive photographs will be displayed in the foyer, showing the cinema over the past 80 years and some of the VIPs who have visited during that time. David Tennant, a long-time GFT supporter, sent the message below.
