GFF25 Community Takeover Day: U Are The Universe

Glasgow Film Festival Community Takeover Day is a free cinema event, created with and for our communities around Glasgow and will be a day of free film, activities and food. This event will cater to all ages and will be planned by members of the local community. The event is entirely free to attend but tickets are only available on the day from Garnethill Multicultural Centre (21 Rose Street, G3 6RE) from 1:00pm. Part of the Glasgow 850 project. Fans of Moon won’t want to miss this funny and surprisingly moving science-fiction drama centring on a lone astronaut seeking connection after being left with no home to return to. Space trucker Andriy (Volodymyr Kravchuk) is making a run to Jupiter, accompanied by his joke-telling right-hand robot Maxim (Leonid Popadko) when he receives bad news from Earth. A message suggesting he might not be as alone as he feared leads him to embark on a dangerous mission in search of connection. While Pavlo Ostrikov includes nods to Moon and Solaris, among others, he crafts a unique atmosphere of humour and heartache that pulls you into its orbit and keeps you there. A gripping watch made all the more remarkable by the fact it was shot during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
