A Sunday in Hell + William Fotheringham Q&A

A rare cinema screening of Jørgen Leth's classic documentary on Paris-Roubaix, cycling's toughest one-day race. A Sunday in Hell is widely regarded as one of the greatest-ever sports films, using a then-groundbreaking 20 cameras along the race route, as well as footage shot from a helicopter — techniques that went on to become standard in high-level sports coverage. Danish director Jørgen Leth's revolutionary film-making techniques, partly inspired by his arthouse background, capture the unique atmosphere of the race, as riders led by Eddy Merckx take on the gruelling, cobble-strewn course on a hot, dusty day in 1976. The screening will be introduced by The Guardian's William Fotheringham, who is the author of a behind-the-scenes book on the making of the film, and many other acclaimed cycling books. There will also be an audience Q&A after the screening.
