The Martian (2015, 12A)

Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) returns to sci-fi with this adaptation of the Andy Weir novel (also worth a read if you’re looking for creative ways to spend your quarantine time). Scientist, Mark Watney, is stranded on Mars and he’s got nothing but his wits, some potatoes and his own poop to make use of and try to find a way to survive until a rescue mission arrives. A fun and clever film that is as much about logic and solving problems as it is about explosions and spaceships.

Great for Film and Media students, as well as STEM students, too. Although this film is a 12A, we would recommend it works best with S3 and up.

This resource also contains some links to some great NASA materials (well worth a look if your class has some space enthusiasts).
