Rear Window (1954, PG)

A brilliant Hitchcock film and a great introduction to classic cinema for young film buffs. James Stewart is stuck inside with a broken leg and only his window for entertainment. After thinking that he’s witnessed a murder, he recruits his girlfriend, Grace Kelly, to help him prove his neighbour is a killer.

This resource analyses Hitchcock’s flair for mise-en-scene while also looking at how the neighbourhood is full of tiny stories. It also features observation questions and some creative writing tasks.

While this film is a PG, we would recommend watching it with S3 and up as some of the subject matter can get a little dark and we find that older pupils can grasp the cinematic terms better. This is a perfect film to use for English and Media exams as well.

Available to watch on Now TV Movies.
