First Man screens from Friday 12 - Thursday 25 October

Alongside a bumper programme of special events and seasons, GFT welcome a number of hotly anticipated new releases, including: critically acclaimed drama The Wife starring Glenn Close; new from Room director Lenny Abrahamson, The Little Stranger, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Charlotte Rampling; atmospheric revenge thriller Black 47 starring Hugo Weaving; the unmissable debut from Carlos López Estrada, Blindspotting; fresh from its Scottish premiere at Glasgow Youth Film Festvial, Skate Kitchen; new documentary The Go-Betweens: Right Here; Glasgow Film Festival 2018 hit Kogonada’s assured debut Columbus; soulful portrait of a young Sioux cowboy, The Rider, from Chloé Zhao; revenge thriller Mandy, starring Nicolas Cage; Gaspar Noé’s provocative Climax; striking animation Tehran Taboo; Cannes-award winning Dogman, and the latest from La La Land director Damien Chazelle, First Man starring Ryan Gosling. New Digital Restorations of Merchant Ivory’s classic love story Maurice and My 20th Century, the debut film from Ildikó Enyedi, also screen this month.

Guests attending GFT in October include: award-winning director Sean McAllister, for a Q&A following A Northern Soul; director Andrew Jezard for a Q&A following Something Left Behind, telling the story of The Wedding Present’s debut album; Glasgow, Love and Apartheid and I Am Not Your Negro will be followed by Q&As, marking Black History Month; Glasgow-based award-winning artist Rachel Maclean will attend a Q&A following a screening of Make Me Up; and GFT welcome two satellite Q&As: European Art Cinema Day: Dogman + Satellite Q&A with direction Matteo Garrone, broadcast live from the BFI London Film Festival, and Peterloo + Satellite Q&A with director Mike Leigh, broadcast live from HOME in Manchester.

Through October and November GFT is taking the rare opportunity to present the spectacle of John Carpenter’s much-loved cult classics on the big screen looking better than ever, including a screening of Halloween followed by a recorded Q&A with John Carpenter.
