Alien: 40th Anniversary Screening at GFF19

In space, no one can hear you scream... but they might if the Xenomorph sneaks up on you in a room full of 400 people! Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror masterpiece, Alien turned 40 this year. How did we mark such a milestone? With laser tag and a screening inside the Nostromo, of course! The industrial interior of Parkhouse Business Park set the perfect tone for those bold enough to brave an encounter with the Xenomorph itself.

Alien follows Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and rest of the crew on-board the star-freighter, USCSS Nostromo. After picking up an SOS signal, the crew are compelled to investigate a nearby moon. What they thought was a distress call turns out to be a warning, and the crew soon discovers that they’ve picked up a sinister stowaway. They must fight for their survival and rid their ship of the alien horror. Weaver’s stellar performance gained her an Oscar-nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

GFF19 attendees followed in Ripley's footsteps with an intense round of laser tag in the industrial complex. If this bunch of sharpshooters had been on that voyage, the Xenomorph wouldn’t have stood a chance! That said, the two aliens skulking around that night managed to startle some of the guests, so perhaps the jury is still out on that one...

Authentic space suit props from the film and an original script were on display, along with an impressive collection of Alien memorabilia. Screen-printing prodigies Print Clan were also on deck, providing limited edition t-shirts to mark the anniversary screening at GFF19. Attendees could grab themselves a drink and quick bite to eat while a spray-paint artist created a glow-in-the-dark Alien mural before the sold-out screening commenced. A timely tribute to a truly remarkable film, there was no better way to mark Alien's 40th anniversary than to experience it back on the big screen, where it truly belongs. Thanks to Indy Cinema Ltd and Park Circus for their support.
