Youth Board member Isobel explains why The Muppet Christmas Carol means so much to her:

Everybody is familiar with the classic story ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. Throughout the years, the story has taken many different shapes and forms; in variations of paintings, short stories, films and more.

However, there is one version in particular that, since its release in 1992, has become the best Christmas film in existence and possibly the best telling of the story. The film in question? The one, the only - The Muppet Christmas Carol

The story, similar to other adaptations of Dickens' classic, follows Scrooge coming to terms with the mistakes made in his past along with what he can do to change his future for the better. He is discovering that by allowing family, friendship and kindness into his angry, lonely life, he can be a happier man.

The film itself is the perfect blend of comedy and drama. First off, you have the Great Gonzo narrating as Charles Dickens himself - with support from Rizzo The Rat of course. If that alone hasn’t sold you, then the fact all your favourite Muppets have a part to play in THE BEST retelling of A Christmas Carol ever should.

Also, did I mention it’s a musical? There’s singing, dancing and more from Kermit and his friends throughout the duration of the film, bringing even the saddest parts a little bit of holiday cheer. You can watch this film with anyone, no matter the age or relation, and know that it will go down well. At no point during this film does it disappoint. It is a masterpiece from start to finish.

Heart-warming, fun and festive, The Muppet Christmas Carol remains a benchmark for all other Christmas films. It successfully tells Dickens’ story in an interesting and captivating way, making it the best Christmas film to date. If you watch any film during the festive season, make it this one.

Our Youth Board have put together a recommended watch guide with suggested activities to enhance your own watch party. And we’d love to see how you get on. Send us your pictures of with your hot chocolate and scarf at the ready!
