Aibek Daiyrbekov’s gorgeous musical takes its inspiration from real events and Kyrgyzstan folklore to tell a captivating saga of love, honour, sacrifice and revenge. Set amidst the stunning beauty of the Tien Shan range, it follows the fate of star-crossed lovers Esen (Omurbek Izrailov) and Begimai (Saltanat Bakaeva). Banished by the tribal leader, Esen strives to prove himself a man worthy of Begimai’s love, whilst the tribal leader himself faces a change in fortune after ordering a sacred tree be cut down. A beautiful and beguiling romance with a song at its heart.
