Set in the aftermath of the Second World War, Gregor Božič’s inventive debut feature unfolds in Slavia-Veneta, on the border between Yugoslavia and Italy. Poverty and political tensions have contributed to mass migration from an area now virtually abandoned. Beautifully filmed in 35mm, there is an autumnal melancholy to a film that captures the bond between two survivors - stingy carpenter Mario (Massimo De Francovich) and the last chestnut seller Marta (Ivana Roscic). A jumble of memories, regrets and sorrows are captured in a touching salute to a lost way of life.
