Twenty years after a tragedy involving her sister, Sarlota returns to her remote village to claim the inheritance left by her deceased mother. As Sarlota reconnects with the locals and begins to search for answers about her troubled childhood, she is soon confronted by the misogyny of superstitious villagers who increasingly begin to believe that Sarlota must be a witch. Director Tereza Nvotová crafts a genre-driven drama that is a powerful and horrifyingly relevant exploration into the acceptance of violence by the patriarchy and highlights societal norms that aim to disadvantage and victimize women.
