Image for Mifune: The Last Samurai

Toshiro Mifune is one of the great warrior figures in world cinema. His collaborations with legendary director Akira Kurosawa defined a legacy as one of the few Japanese actors to become a truly international movie star. Steven Okazaki’s must see new documentary Mifune: The Last Samurai, narrated by Keanu Reeves, is the perfect excuse to revisit some of Mifune’s most enduring performances. According to Kurosawa: “He has a kind of talent I had never encountered before in the Japanese film world. It was, above all, the speed with which he expressed himself that was astounding. The ordinary Japanese actor might need ten feet of film to get across an impression; Mifune needed only three.” These Kurosawa classics offer a lasting testimony to the power and glory of Mifune’s screen persona.
