Image for Ireland: The Near Shore

Ireland’s booming film industry is the envy of many a small country. Blazing young acting talents from Saoirse Ronan to Barry Keoghan are claiming the world stage. Directors like Lenny Abrahamson and Martin McDonagh are at the very top of their game and the country excels at animation. Ireland has always been a big part of the GFF programme – we opened with Handsome Devil last year – so this year we are celebrating the industry from its bright new talents to its most experienced, inspirational filmmakers. Highlights include The Breadwinner, the latest animated feature from the makers of The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, and Kissing Candice which signals the arrival of the exciting directorial vision from Aoife McArdle. Watch and marvel.
