Okay, wait... if we were one of Europe’s greatest leaders, and we were stranded in Glasgow for one day, where would we go?

Strange things were afoot at Buchanan Galleries on Wednesday 27 February as Glasgow Film Festival celebrated the 30th anniversary of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure with a special event dedicated to the time-travelling twosome.

This most excellent adventure follows the trials of Bill S. Preston ESQ (Alex Winter) and Ted Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves), a couple of failing high school students in San Dimas, California, with a dream of starting their own rock band: the 'Wyld Stallyns'. However, their future hangs in the balance of their history report, with Ted’s dad threatening to send him to military school if he fails. Fortunately, Rufus – a mysterious man from the future – attempts to help assist them in their predicament, because if Bill and Ted never form Wyld Stallyns, then their music will never achieve world peace, and a future in which everyone is excellent to each other will never exist! So, with the aid of Rufus' phone box time machine, can Bill and Ted track down all the historical figures by morning and prevent themselves from "flunking most heinously"?

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is an absolute gem of a film that many hold near and dear, so there’s no surprise that many fans rocked up to the event. Some time-travelling guests even came sporting Wyld Stallyns tour t-shirts!

If your knowledge of historical figures isn’t good enough to ace the San Dimas High School history report and you still think that Caesar is a “salad dressing dude”, then tonight would have been the night to change that. Abraham Lincoln, Billy the Kid, Freud and Joan of Arc made the most of being 'lost in time', mingling with GFF19 attendees inside the mall and sampling some of the greatest ice cream known to man, courtesy Graham’s Family Dairy.

GFF19 has been quite the festival for Keanu Reeves' fans - as we also celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Matrix with a special event at Argyle Street Arches - and although the real life Bill and Ted could not be with us on the night, actor Alex Winter surprised everyone with a humble and heart-warming video message, which he recorded specially for the event. Winter said:

“Hello Glasgow Film Festival!

Thank you so much for putting on this little shindig and coming out for the anniversary of a film we made many years ago with a lot of love and sincerity, and not a whole hell of a lot of expectation. So, it’s pretty incredible that it’s had the life that it has and it is greatly appreciated from me and everyone involved in this movie.

I hope you enjoy the show. Have a most excellent evening.“

The film then started and the audience were whisked away on an epic journey though time with Bill and Ted. GFF19 has witnessed many incredible things, but nothing as bodacious as what just happened.
