GFF18: European Premiere of You, Me and Him

Last Sunday night saw star David Tennant, director Daisy Aitkens, and producer Georgia Tennant hit the GFF18 red carpet for the European Premiere of their new film You, Me and Him. We managed to sit down with them outside of the excitement surrounding the screening to discuss the making of the film.

As old friends Aitkens and Georgia Tennant were delighted to work together on a film that was a labour of love for both of them, with Aitkens describing it as a piece of their hearts.

“I don’t want to work with anyone else apart from Daisy” Tennant professed, as Aitkens continued on to say that the working on the film was “this wonderful continuation of our already great friendship.”

Both women felt that the film may appear at first to be a comedy, but tackles important issues. Aitken explained it “[deals] with much more real-life, challenging issues that are often shied away from. So as much as it will make you laugh it will also make you cry.”

David Tennant gave us his own take on what drew him to the project, saying “One of the many things that I love about this film is that you see many versions of what a family can be… maybe that’s something very modern, maybe that’s something of this millennium, that is something society is still coming to terms with; that families can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and all sorts of flavours.”

The audience was then able to delve into these themes further, as both Tennants and Aitkens took to the stage following the screening for a post-show Q&A, discussing how the film was made and the problems it wishes to confront in depth. All in all, much like the film, the evening packed a surprising punch in addition to the laughter and love it brought to GFF18.
