Access Programmes  

Glasgow Film provides an independent film programme for diverse audiences, including specific community engagement and equalities-driven initiatives.  

These initiatives include our flagship programmes Visible Cinema (D/deaf and hard of hearing-friendly screenings), Movie Memories (Dementia- friendly screenings), Access Film Club (Autism, Neurodivergent and Learning Disabled-friendly screenings). 

In 2023 GFT launched Glasgow Film Club. A relaxed space to talk about a different film each month. This programme in conjunction with our Monthly Sliding Scale Screening (£0 - £10) and is open to anyone to attend and developed to reduce loneliness, social isolation and remove the barrier of ticket prices.  

Captions and Audio Description  

GFT offers both Captions and Audio Description on selected titles and selected screenings. Listings of these screenings and how to book audio headsets can be found here.  

Anti-Racism and Equalities at Glasgow Film 

Glasgow Film's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is clearly stated in our vision: Cinema For All. We have a proud history of diverse programming, community-driven partnerships and developing sector-leading equalities initiatives.
 

During our recent Anti-Racism Audit (2021 & 2022), we learned more about what we need to do to embed a more actively anti-racist and intersectional approach to all of our work, both internally (with staff and volunteers) and externally (with audiences and participants). 

Our Anti-Racism and Equalities Pledge 

We believe that everyone has the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community and to enjoy the arts and its benefits. Glasgow Film must belong to and reflect Scotland’s diverse population. We are committed to becoming a proactively anti-racist organisation that understands how race and other protected characteristics including age, disability, gender, class, religion, sex and sexual orientation all create unique experiences of discrimination and marginalisation. 

We pledge our commitment to tackling the consequences of racism and the systemic inequalities that negatively impact on fair access and participation in the arts, cinema and creative industries. We will: 

Nurture an actively anti-racist and inclusive staff culture.

Champion and demand change in the arts and creative industries alongside anti-racism and equalities campaigners; 

Invest in long-term programming partnerships, co-production and outreach, with people and communities who are under-represented in our audiences and face participation barriers.

Apply intersectional thinking across all areas of our work: from strategy to delivery to venue accessibility.
