The Bikeriders, starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Norman Reedus, follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals who's married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny, recounts the Vandals' evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
'Heavy hints of Goodfellas abound here – a true story that’s both compelling and horrifying, a fantastic 1960s soundtrack, a noteperfect cast (Hardy and Shannon are usually good value, but they really are great here), a dominating narration, there’s even a freeze frame just as someone is about to be whacked - quite literally. It’s certainly not just another rehashed tale of organized crime; indeed, most of that stuff happened to the gangs depicted here years after the film’s events. Instead, it's a story of brotherhood and loyalty and of what happens to the old guard when the new guard comes along and changes all the rules. Nichols’ best film to date.' - David Gattens, Finance/Commercial Director at Glasgow FilmThe Bikeriders showing at: July 4, 6:10 pm
