Martha: A Picture Story + discussion

In 1970s New York, photographer Martha Cooper captured some of the first images of graffiti at a time when the city had declared war on it. Decades later, Cooper has become influential to the global movement of street artists. This screening, in partnership with SWG3 and Yardworks, forms part of a research project in partnership with Generations Working Together and communities living in Garnethill. This project has been generating discussion around community safety and bringing older and younger people together through urban arts to explore themes relating to community, safety, creativity and pride. The screening will be followed by a short panel discussion. Tickets for this film are priced on a sliding scale, on a Pay What You Can basis: £10 / £8 / £6 / £4 / £2 / free. Please choose the amount appropriate to your circumstances. YEAR OF CELEBRATION: 2024 marks 85 years since our cinema (originally the Cosmo) was built, 50 years since GFT was founded and the 20th edition of Glasgow Film Festival. Whilst our box office and bar sales only cover around 50% of our annual costs and help keep the film reels rolling, we rely on donations and fundraising to run our education and community activities. We need your help! Celebrate 50 years of GFT by donating £50 at checkout. A £50 donation also secures your seat at our special January screening. Find out more or donate via glasgowfilm.org/donate.
