Leos Carax (Annette) returned to cinema after a 13-year hiatus with Holy Motors, a brilliant, visually striking film.
Apparently inspired by the filmmaker’s fascination with the after hours life of stretch limousines, the film follows Monsieur Oscar (Denis Lavant) who, over the course of a single day, takes on ten other guises, ranging from a gangster and ageing millionaire to a troubled parent and anarchic tramp. With impressive cameos by Eva Mendes and Kylie Minogue, Holy Motors is the rarest of things – a true original.
★★★★★ “A gripping surrealist odyssey that makes most other films look very buttoned-up” - The Guardian

Give a gift to GFT this Christmas
This holiday season, we’re celebrating not only Christmas but also 85 years since our cinema's original opening, 50 years of GFT, and the 20th Glasgow Film Festival. Whilst our box office and bar sales only cover around 50% of our annual costs and help keep the film reels rolling, we rely on donations and fundraising to run our education and community activities. We need your help!
Celebrate 50 years of GFT by donating £50. A £50 donation also secures your seat at our special January screening.
