Hazal, a 17-year-old from Berlin, dreams of finding a place for herself in the world. Despite relentless efforts to secure a job, she faces constant prejudice. On her 18th birthday, hoping to celebrate, Hazal and her friends are turned away at the door of a trendy club, a harsh reminder that she doesn’t belong. When an altercation with a pushy student escalates, Hazal flees to Istanbul. In this unfamiliar city, she must navigate survival on her own, no matter the cost.
In her debut role, Melia Kara brings depth and intensity to the character of Hazal, capturing the raw emotion and determination of a young woman pushed to her limits. Elbow offers a raw, urgent portrait of youth, identity, and resilience, keeping you on the edge as you follow Hazal’s journey through a world that has turned its back on her.

2024 marks 85 years since our cinema (originally the Cosmo) was built, 50 years since GFT was founded and the 20th edition of Glasgow Film Festival.
Whilst our box office and bar sales only cover around 50% of our annual costs and help keep the film reels rolling, we rely on donations and fundraising to run our education and community activities. We need your help!
