A Real Pain

Jesse Eisenberg cements his reputation as a gifted filmmaker with this witty and heartfelt portrait of two estranged cousins honouring their roots. Benji and David travel to Poland to pay respects to their Jewish grandmother. No sooner are they on the road, they realise why they don’t spend much time together anymore. Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin dazzle in their roles as the familial odd-couple, trading witty barbs and sobering ruminations on mid-adulthood growing pains, in this deftly scripted film full of humour and hope. We are delighted to be showing the short film Ball (3 min) by Fridtjof Stensæth Josefson, ahead of all screenings of A Real Pain, in partnership with Glasgow Short Film Festival's (GSFF) Shorts in Support. ------- Please note our screening on Wednesday 15 January at 6.10pm will be a sliding scale payment screening followed by Glasgow Film Club — a monthly club to come and chat about film. Glasgow Film Club takes place after our Sliding Scale Screening (choose from paying £0, £2, £4, £6, £8, £10). Anyone who has seen the film, no matter what screening they go to, is welcome at Glasgow Film Club. It is a place for our audience to socialise and explore films in a way that is meaningful to them. Meet our Community Engagement Coordinator, Nicola Scott, in the GFT Foyer after the screening ends at 8pm and we will walk together to Garnethill Multicultural Centre, which is less than a five minute walk from GFT. This venue has stairs at the front of the building and level access from the rear of the building. The room and facilities are all on one level, including an accessible toilet. You can expect: · A welcoming, relaxed environment · A casual club feel rather than a formal discussion group · Refreshments provided · No need to sign up — just come on the day · Everyone is welcome to come and chat about the film · Glasgow Film Club is free to attend ----- Year of Celebration Film - Donate £50 at checkout 2024 marks 85 years since our cinema (originally the Cosmo) was built, 50 years since GFT was founded and the 20th edition of Glasgow Film Festival. Whilst our box office and bar sales only cover around 50% of our annual costs and help keep the film reels rolling, we rely on donations and fundraising to run our education and community activities. We need your help! Celebrate 50 years of GFT by donating £50 at checkout. A £50 donation also secures your seat at our special January screening. Find out more or donate HERE.
