Details

This unique film pieces together a collection of 533 films dating from the 1910s to 1920s, which were lost for over 50 years until being discovered buried in a sub-arctic swimming pool, deep in the Yukon Territory. Using these rare silent films and newsreels, director Bill Morrison tells the strange and surprising history of the Canadian gold rush town Dawson City. Beautifully recounting stories once lost, this truly atmospheric and absorbing documentary gives a voice to forgotten movie stars and a once big-time town.

An ingenious use of archive footage to tell the true story of the bizarre discovery of that same footage, this is a near-hypnotic film experience. Unlike anything you've ever seen - or heard, thanks to its uniquely atmospheric soundtrack.

Paul Gallagher, GFT Marketing Manager

An instantaneously recognizable masterpiece.
