This summer, GFT have a programme jam-packed with big name new releases, brilliant independent fllms plus a number of specially curated seasons, unique to Glasgow Film. Major new releases in July include: the hugely anticipated new film from Inception director Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk, including a special one off 70mm screening in August; The Beguiled, which won Sofia Coppola the Best Director award at Cannes Film Festival this year; Song to Song from Terrence Malick; plus, following the breakout debut Krisha, Trey Edward Shults returns with It Comes at Night; two of France’s finest actresses, Catherine Frot and Catherine Deneuve, in comedy drama The Midwife and fascinating documentary David Lynch: The Art Life.

In August, releases include: Maudie, based on the true story of one of Canada’s most iconic artists; the latest from Finnish director Dome Karukoski (The Grump), Tom of Finland; Morrissey biopic and Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017 Closing Gala, England is Mine; Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara in A Ghost Story; Grand Jury award-winner at Sheffield Doc/Fest, powerful documentary City of Ghosts and powerful Oscar-nominated Danish drama Land of Mine.

In July, to celebrate the release of The Beguiled, GFT is delighted to curate CineMasters: Sofia Coppola, a season of four Coppola features: The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette screening on 35mm, plus The Bling Ring.

Marking the passing of Jonathan Demme earlier this year, in August GFT celebrate some of the director’s best work in CineMasters: Jonathan Demme. The season features: Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married, Something Wild and Stop Making Sense

CineMasters seasons at GFT are presented in partnership with The Skinny.

Some filmmakers take a while to find their stride, but Sofia Coppola came right out the gate with a confident style characterised by dreamy atmosphere, expressionist visuals and a lively soundtrack.

It’s not easy to capture the energy of a live concert on film. For Sound & Vision this summer, GFT have curated a season of the very best concert films that are the nearest you can get to the real thing. The season includes: Björk: Biophilia Live, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, Wattstax and more.

As the US celebrates its Independence Day on 4 July, we present a selection of American films that celebrate, question and confront the Land of the Free. The season includes: American History X, Top Gun, American Psycho and Team America: World Police.
